Studios in the city centers are a real challenge for architects and interior designers. The old systems need to be replaced, the sizes are small and one must be able to combine functionality with comfort. The apartments should in fact support the daily life of their guests and, if possible, simplify it.
For the renovation of a 42 sqm apartment in the center of Bucharest (Romania), the architect Anca Ivan of Simetrica Design was inspired by the concept of “Modern Geometry”.
Throughout the apartment we find straight lines and geometric shapes, which through their trendy pastel colors, become contemporary. The apartment is elegant and minimalist with a fresh and youthful attitude. The main room is the bedroom.
This room had to be given a double function: bedroom as well as home office,without the possibility of dividers due to its lack of space. The solution found by Anca Ivan was to exploit different geometries to distinguish the two areas, whilst maintaining the same color palette. For the home office area, the architect inserted a bookcase with square shelving to define the space. For the sleeping area, on the other hand, she opted for the “Janis” wallpaper (in the Primary color variant), from the Geometric Notes collection.
The sinuous geometries of the wallpaper design soften the straight lines of the room, providing it with the artistic touch and character that the architect Anca Ivan was trying to obtain.
