Every time we write on a sheet of paper or flip through a book, we don’t realize how much history lies behind these spontaneous, everyday gestures. Once upon a time, paper was a luxurious and expensive commodity, and bookbinding was reserved only for highly valuable texts. Even in this field, Italian excellence stood out, thanks to the emergence of several paper mills as early as the 13th century. Over time, they refined highly distinctive artisanal and decorative techniques. Some of these, such as paper marbling, have survived to this day, preserving all their ancient charm.
It is precisely marbled paper that inspires Index, the decorative panel collection by Tecnografica. A special technique that involves using a gelatinous liquid on which various oil-based colors are poured; the colors do not mix with the liquid but remain suspended on the surface, creating evocative spots and colorful shapes guided by random imagination.
Marbled papers were used to decorate book covers or endpapers. For this reason, the Index collection pays homage to great literary works, with clear references in the names of the subjects: Gatsby, Moby, Wonderland, and Robinson, all later reinterpreted graphically in the additional designs Chapters and Quotes.
Through the new Index collection of decorative panels, Tecnografica tells an ancient yet colorful story, carefully designed, yet unpredictable in its chromatic evolutions, ready to narrate its adventures in elegant interior design projects.
