What is known in the world of performing arts as the “fourth wall” represents a kind of imaginary barrier that separates the audience from the stage. It is an “invisible wall” through which the public watches and follows the artistic performance. Ideally, it is the wall that completes the stage, added to the existing three.
It is precisely from this concept that Quarta Parete, the wallpaper collection by Tecnografica, takes its name.
Inspired by theatrical set design, our designers explored Kirigami, an ancient Eastern technique that involves cutting and folding paper to create three-dimensional, raised shapes. Thanks to this very special method, developed entirely by hand, Tecnografica’s designers created paper structures that reproduce depth and perspective, just like the scenery on a theater stage.
The graphic subjects themselves are named in homage to the world of entertainment: this capsule collection opens with Sipario, continues with Odeon, and concludes with Applauso.
Just as set design creates a false perspective on stage, so the wallpapers of Quarta Parete create the optical illusion of depth within a room. Where space seems to end, Quarta Parete adds further three-dimensionality. These wallpapers are thus particularly compelling in interior design, thanks to their ability to generate unexpected perspective effects or visually expand tight spaces.
