Melissa Zanella was born in Schio (Vicenza) on March 16, 1971. After earning her art diploma, she enrolled in architecture and began studying comics as a self-taught artist. In the early 1990s, she published several short stories in the underground magazine Snuff and in the comics anthology Jam City by Valdo Futura Editore.
Her first professional experience was a short episode of Motor Mike published in Italia XXII secolo Unlimited by Phoenix Enterprise. About twenty exams later, she began collaborating with the publishing house Sergio Bonelli Editore, for which she illustrated five episodes of the series Legs Weaver and one volume of the miniseries Greystorm.
She has occasionally inked the pencils of other colleagues (for example, on Martin Mystère – Gigante Il re rosso).
Between 2013 and 2014, she participated in Illustra nos a Malo and I piccoli maestri illustrati: two celebratory exhibitions dedicated to the fiftieth anniversaries of Luigi Meneghello’s literary works (Libera nos a malo and I piccoli maestri). A portfolio and reading notebook include illustrations by all participants.
Two of her illustrations were also selected and exhibited at the University of Reading in England, where Luigi Meneghello founded the Department of Italian Studies.
In February 2015, Sergio Bonelli Editore published Il sole del mattino, an episode of Agenzia Alfa: a single, long story (282 pages) entirely inspired by the paintings of Master Edward Hopper.
She is currently part of the Nathan Never team.
