“Design makes sense — it enters through the eyes, it’s spoken about through the mouth, touched by the hands, and appreciated by the heart.”
Mauricio Lara is a Mexican designer distinguished by the variety of his professional works, ranging from impeccable commercial projects to art pieces rich in contagious humor.
Lara’s creative work goes far beyond industrial design. Mauricio fully embraces his artistic side, expressing himself through painting, sculpture, graphic art, and illustration, and experimenting with different materials such as ceramics and glass. He has even collaborated on a fashion design project.
His black-and-white artworks become wallpapers that enrich Tecnografica’s Collaborations. The themes developed by the Mexican designer are the result of graphic exploration and experimentation.
Through ink drawings, Mauricio Lara explores two key themes: humankind—its relationships, roots, and challenges throughout history (Éxodos, Refugios)—and the playfulness of creativity (Abstracto, Expresiones, Signos), where experimentation and chance give birth to unique, unrepeatable forms, symbols, and signs.
Tecnografica is honored to include Mauricio Lara among its artists.
Lara holds a degree in Industrial Design from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (1988–1992). With nearly thirty years of professional experience, he is considered one of Mexico’s most important designers.
He founded EOS Mexico (1998) and co-founded Lara Hnos (2004–present), one of the country’s leading design studios, where he collaborates with his brother Sebastián Lara.
In recognition of their career, in 2009 the publishing house Arquine released the book EOS Mexico, the work of Mauricio and Sebastián Lara.
His works have been exhibited in numerous shows across Mexico, the United States, and Europe, earning many national and international design awards.
After appearing in the exhibition Destination: Mexico (2012) at the MoMA Design Store in New York, his work Erizo (2000), an elegant pen holder, was purchased by the museum as an exclusive item for its store.
Later, his chair design “CHAC-SEAT” (2004) was acquired in 2017 by the Denver Art Museum as part of its international design collection.
In March 2022, the publishing house Toronja Ediciones released his first book, Mauricio Lara: Una historia en tinta nigra (A Story in Black Ink).
