Massimo Iosa Ghini (Bologna, 1959) is an architect who graduated from the Politecnico di Milano. Since 1985, he has been part of the Italian design avant-garde, as founder of the Bolidismo group and a member of the Memphis group alongside Ettore Sottsass.
His professional evolution spans design, commercial and museum architecture, public transport area and structure projects, and global retail chain concepts. He has developed projects for major international groups such as Ferrari, Capital Group, IBM Italia, CMC Group Miami, Seat Pagine Gialle, Alitalia, and many others.
His design and architectural works have received prestigious mentions such as the ADI Compasso D’Oro Award and numerous recognitions, including the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum, the Red Dot Award and iF Product Design Award in Germany, the Roscoe Award in the U.S., and the IAI Green Design Global Award and IAI Awards in Shanghai, China.
In 2013, the Triennale di Milano dedicated an entire retrospective to his thirty-year career — from his beginnings to his current sustainable projects — later presented at MAMbo – the Museum of Modern Art of Bologna in 2014.
In 2015, his retail concept KIKO MILANO won the BEST RETAIL GLOBAL EXPANSION category at MAPIC 2014. On April 25, 2015, the Marconi Foundation and the Marconi Institute for Creativity awarded him the Marconi Prize for Creativity in recognition of his innovative capabilities.
In 2017, he was appointed “Ambassador of Italian Design” as part of the Italian Design Day – IDD, organized and coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Italian design worldwide.
Tecnografica is honored to welcome an internationally renowned architect and designer like Massimo Iosa Ghini among its Collaborations artists. In particular, three wallpaper designs — “Digital Jungle,” “Digital Tapestry,” and “Digital Wool” — bring electronic design into wallcoverings through what Iosa Ghini defines as a “synthetic representation of reality.”
